Course Description

Allied Health Careers, Semester A, is the first part of a two-semester course. The course begins with an overview of the health care delivery system and allied health services. You will also be introduced to medical terminology. As you progress in the course, you will learn about the structures and functions of various human body systems. You will become familiar with common diseases and disorders that affect each body system along with their diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. Additionally, you will explore the strategies and factors that influence health and wellness. Finally, you will learn about diagnostic imaging, electrocardiography, lab tests, and respiratory care. This course consists of 17 lessons organized into four units, four Unit Activities, and four Discussions. Additionally, there is one Course Activity and one Course Project that you need to work on throughout the course. Each lesson contains one or more Lesson Activities. You will grade your work in the Lesson Activities by comparing it to sample responses. You will submit the Unit Activities, Course Activity, and Course Project to your teacher for grading.

Allied Health Careers, Semester B, is the second part of a two-semester course. The course gives you an understanding of different allied health professions and equips you with the essential knowledge and skills required in diverse fields such as biotech research, rehabilitation, assistive and geriatric care, pharmacology, medical administration, and veterinary care. You will learn about the common hazards present in laboratories and other health care facilities. You will learn about infection control, safety precautions, guidelines, and practices. You will also learn about the laws and ethical issues relevant to allied health workplaces. Toward the end of this course, you will focus on developing career skills, such as teamwork and leadership skills, research job opportunities, apply for jobs, and participate in mock interviews. This course consists of 15 lessons organized into four units, four Unit Activities, and four Discussions. Additionally, there is one Course Activity and one Course Project that you need to work on during the course. Each lesson contains one or more Lesson Activities. You will grade your work in the Lesson Activities by comparing it to sample responses. You will submit the Unit Activities, Course Activity, and Course Project to your teacher for grading.

Full Year: Full year courses are two semesters in length, 18 weeks maximum each. For full year enrollments, students will be enrolled in Semester 1 initially and Semester 2 after completion of Semester 1.
